Subsea Containment Assembly
A large, component-based Subsea Containment Assembly (SCA) originally designed (2012–2014) for emergency well containment in the Gulf of Mexico. Available for purchase as a single complete unit or in separate components to suit operational needs.
Details
Developed between 2012 and 2014 specifically for high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) emergency operations in the Gulf of Mexico, this SCA was manufactured by Aker Solutions to deliver robust well containment capabilities. The assembly is comprised of several critical components:
-
Connector Assembly
- Engineered to securely couple with multiple wellhead or capping stack interfaces.
- High-integrity, quick-connect design minimizes rig time during critical operations.
-
Choke and Gate Valves
- Control flow and pressure in intervention or containment scenarios.
- Built from corrosion-resistant alloys to withstand harsh GoM conditions.
-
Double Ram Assembly
- Incorporates dual rams for enhanced sealing and shearing capabilities.
- ROV-operable design ensures rapid closure and reduced exposure risk.
-
SCA Cap
- Forms a pressure-tight seal over a compromised wellhead.
- Integrated ports for real-time pressure monitoring.
-
Subsea Accumulator Module (SAM)
- Supplies the hydraulic pressure to operate and close the double rams.
- Maintains reserve pressure for the SCA control system.
-
Fabrication Stands
- Provide stable support during fabrication, testing, and maintenance.
- Simplify storage and mobilization processes.
Primary Applications:
- Emergency well containment
- HPHT well intervention
- Rapid capping of compromised wellheads
- Pressure control and flow regulation
