The winch drum is mounted on the output shaft of a Hagglunds compact motor & integrated brake. The line pull can be altered by adjusting the pressure across the hydraulic motor, and hence altering the torque developed by the motor which directly either increases or decreases the effective line pull of the winch. The winch is driven bi-directionally using a 3 position 4-way directional control valve and can operate in "Drive" and "Freewheeling" modes which can be selected by the 2 position selector switch on the control panel.

The speed of the drum is proportionally; its direction is determined by a 3 position, spring return to centre, joystick. These are mounted locally on the Electric Winch Enclosure.

The Level wind electrically driven from the 5.5 kW SEW Electric gearmotor. The level wind is PLC controlled, is automatic with a manual override. The Level wind can be adjusted to accept a variety of cable diameters if required.
