Details

A breakaway coupling is a component in the floating hoses used by FPSOs to offload stored oil to a tandem moored tanker. In the event that the tandem mooring hawser parts and the tanker drifts free, the breakaway coupling separates under tension, petals close inside each half of the coupling isolating both sides of the hose and preventing a loss of containment.
