The 13.5Te Shipboard Cable Spooler System has been designed to handle various drums of cable/storage reels. The spooler skid design allows drums of cable to be positioned between the arms. A safety bar restrains the drum once it has been mounted within the arms.
The 13.5Te Shipboard Cable Spooler System has been designed to handle various drums of cable/storage reels. The spooler skid design allows drums of cable to be positioned between the arms. A safety bar restrains the drum once it has been mounted within the arms.
A rack consists of two arms, one static and one moveable. The movable arm has a centre steady. The static arm has the drive head installed this comprises of a drum interface plate, a planetary gearbox and a braked hydraulic motor, the two arms are supported on beams and are linked by hydraulic cylinders. Another hydraulic cylinder adjusts the distance between the static and movable arms to accommodate the barrel length.
The level wind is driven hydraulically, and hydraulic cylinders adjust the vertical travel of the level wind to correspond with the diameter of the drum. The level wind carriage is fitted with a roller box with 6" (150 mm) clearance width between the rollers, thus allowing the passage of a range of cable diameters. The drive head motor gear develops torque that allows cable transfer to the main streamer reel under back tension. The drive motor gear has been fitted with a failsafe multidisc brake.
A valve stand is included to mount the direction control valves for the drive head, independent control of the cylinders to adjust the height of the arms, the distance between the arms, the height of the level wind carriage and the position of the level wind carriage.
