The Winch consists of a winch drum mounted on a support structure, the drum is mounted directly onto a Flagglund Viking hydraulic motor fitted with two failsafe hydraulic cylinders and band brake assembly. The hydraulic closed-loop system governs the position of the swash plate in the pump(s) to control the direction and speed of rotation of the drum eliminating the need of a directional control valve. Line pull can be set or altered by adjusting the pressure across the hydraulic motor and hence altering the torque developed by the motor. Manual control for full and half speed displacement providing low-speed high torque or high-speed low torque. Mooring and breakout mode for seabed operation.

Line speed can be smoothly adjusted between zero and 90 meters per minute using a proportional joystick. The level wind system comprises a right-angled passively driven 1280mm root diameter exit sheave, complete with 25.5T load pin for tension control, and is fitted with removable guide rollers to enable the required vertical plane cable lead off-angle to be obtained. The level wind and level wind support bar are mounted to the winch and both are detachable for ease of transportation and provided with transportation frames.
