The Tooling Basket LARS comprises of a 2 Te SWL A-Frame that is mounted on a common skid with two constant tension 2 Te winches, a 1 Te auxiliary winch and is connected to its own dedicated HPU.

The 2 Te A-Frame is designed for lowering a single tooling basket to the seafloor, with the capability to remain under constant tension when required. The provision of the 1 Te non constant winch provides auxiliary handling.

The winches have been designed as separate stand-alone units, and although the Tooling Basket LARS system is mounted on a common skid it comprises of three separate winch units, allowing a level of redundancy in the system (to carry out maintenance etc.), or to use individual winches for other tasks in the future, from the skid, or demounted in another location on-board as shown on the GA. Each winch barrel is driven via a gearbox and hydraulic motor combination fitted with a failsafe brake unit. The brake, being failsafe, always defaults to on should, for any reason, hydraulic pressure is lost, or the direction control valve is in its centre position. The hydraulic motors have been fitted with dual over centre valves and brake shuttle valves. Spooling is provided by a chain driven level wind driven directly from the winch barrel in combination with a diamond screw and level wind roller box.
