The A-Frame incorporates the snubber and latch assembly suspended centrally from the crossbeam and allowed two axes of damped rotation, the damping will comprise a double acting cylinder in the transverse plane and two single acting cylinders in the longitudinal plane. The transverse movement will account for the A frame movement and the longitudinal movement will be ±15°. The snubber is designed to ensure that the CTD latching force is reduce during and maintained when the CTD lift cable tension is reduced post latch.
The CTD dead latch will be fitted within the sheave snubber assembly, a sensor will indicate when the CTD is latched. The snubber travel will be arranged to prevent contact between the CTD termination and the over boarding sheave. The latch will be failsafe and will be able to be remotely un-latched only when under no load. The CTD will be lowered to the deck by taking the weight of the CTD with the cable and traction winch. Once the weight of the CTD has been taken up the latch will be disengaged and the CTD can be lowered to the deck in a controlled manner.
